Licensed Veterinary Techinician
Part Time (less than 32 hours/week) including some Saturday mornings
Begins in April 2010
Qualities we are seeking:
Self starting, professional individual with a keen eye for detail, time management, and organization. Must be willing to freely assist in other areas of the hospital if needed. Must be interested in educating clients and staff and have strong verbal communcation skills. Familiarity with Microsoft programs is essential and with Avimark a plus. Bilingual in Spanish a plus. LVT license (or scheduled to take licensure exam) necessary.
Position also involves:
Use of technical skills including but not limited to:
Assisting the DVM and other LVTs with pet restraint
Taking client histories and educating on preventive care
Nail trims, expressing anal glands
Laboratory work including use of Heska blood machines, fecals, in house heartworm tests, fluid and tissue cytology set up, and blood smears
Blood draws, catheter placement (IV and urinary)
Nursing care of hospitalized pets and treatments including oral and injectable medications
Induction of anesthesia and assisting the doctor in surgery
Clean and sterilizing surgical instruments
Dentistry: charting, radiographs, and cleaning
Set up and take radiographs
Maintaining both routine and controlled substance inventories, record keeping for patients, anesthesia, and radiology
Maintain all medical equipment and keep work area clean and organized
